Mountain bike racing is increasing in popularity and the next Goodwood Spring Challenge was organised for Sunday 17th April (but now cancelled) and arranged by the Rotary Club of Chichester Priory has now establish a brilliant course and venue in the South for this popular sport. 200 riders and supporters took the challenge in 2010 on the a day that started out wet and foggy and onto brilliant afternoon sunshine.
The riders maintained excellent speeds around the beautiful and technically testing 5.5 mile routes, each rider doing between 2 to 5 laps depending upon the event entered. Full resultants are available on the Previous Results page.
The course was arranged and fully marked out by members of our Rotary Club and two of our sponsors, Pete of Geared Bikes and Wear, Donnington and Martin of Southdown Bikes of Angmering. Our special thanks go to the Goodwood Estates for allowing us to use the grounds and for the help and assistance provided leading up to the event.
This event attracts a large number of riders from across the South of England. The riders are fully supported by TimeLaps computerised results system providing position and lap time readouts on the day, race commentary, hot and cold refreshments, St. John Ambulance, marshals around the course with radio link to our control tent, toilets and free parking.
Trophies are awarded to each of the three leading competitors in each event by the Rotary Priory President. All proceeds from the event will go to the charity Winston’s Wish this year.
